A large and beautifully preserved antique German doll, Model 117N "Mein Liebling", produced by Kämmer & Reinhardt with a bisque head by Simon & Halbig, dating to the early 20th century (circa 1901–1910).
Founded in 1886 in Waltershausen, Germany, Kämmer & Reinhardt collaborated with Simon & Halbig for the production of their finely crafted bisque heads, making such dual-marked dolls highly recognizable and sought after by collectors.
Description
Height: 70 cm (27.6 in)
Head: Bisque (porcelain), confirmed under light
Eyes: Original brown glass "flirty" eyes, moving side-to-side when the doll is gently tilted
Mouth: Open with four teeth
Wig: Sold with a new wig (made in France)
Condition
Head & face: Good antique condition, free from visible damage
Eyes mechanism: Functional; movement depends on correct positioning
Important note:
The internal pendulum mechanism controlling the side-to-side eye movement requires adjustment for optimal performance. Once properly balanced or serviced, the eyes move smoothly and create a vivid, lifelike effect.
Body: Overall good vintage condition
Notable flaws (clearly shown in photos):
Damage to the right arm at the shoulder joint (requires restoration; manageable for a specialist)
Minor cracks and chips on the composite body consistent with age
Hands and feet remain intact and in overall good condition
Clothing
- Original antique handmade linen undergarments (shorts and strap shirt), now aged with yellowing and some wear
- Dressed in a later vintage handmade dress (circa 1950s)
- Vintage stockings and leather shoes included
A striking and characterful antique doll with a vivid expression and rare mechanical eye movement.
An authentic collector’s piece that retains both its historical integrity and emotional presence.
