Antique French binoculars dating to circa 1900, marked “Colmont Paris” on one eyepiece and “Jumelles Nationales” on the other. Larger and more substantial than traditional theatre glasses, this model belongs rather to the category of field glasses, associated with travel, outdoor viewing, sporting use and early military or marine-style optics.
The binoculars feature a dark brown leather-covered body, metal construction, brass-tone details. Original side attachments are present on both sides of the корпус, intended for suspending the binoculars from a cord or chain around the neck during travel or outdoor use.
These practical details give the piece a distinctly masculine, functional character, very different from the decorative opera glasses of the same period.
The preserved maker’s markings, strong proportions and working optics make this a particularly attractive collectible example of French antique optical equipment from the Belle Époque period.
The binoculars provide clear long-distance viewing with adjustable focus. They remain genuinely usable, while also functioning as a refined decorative object for a library, study, cabinet of curiosities or travel-inspired interior.
